Darshanala Santosh, a 26 year old from Kuchulapur village in Warangal district, has hanged himself near the arts college demanding immediate formation of Telangana state. Santosh, who came to the city to pursue PhD from Osmania University, wrote a suicide note that he is ending his life due to the delay in the formation of Telangana.

This incident, which took place in the early hours of Wednesday, came to notice of the students of OU and they were agitated. They marched toward the second university gate to rally up to clock tower in Secunderabad, but were obstructed by the police. Students pelted stones on the police. Tension prevailed in OU until evening when the parents of Santosh arrived and took the body to their village. Meanwhile, OU-JAC leaders disrupted the classes in OU and called for a one day strike.

Since 2009, 850 people, including 450 students committed suicide demanding a separate Telangana state. ”The government should give a call to students not to commit suicide,” M Krishank, spokesman of the Telangana Students’ Joint Action Committee said. After the news of the youth suicide spread across the region, there were several protests across Telangana. Students in EFLU and KU disrupted the classes and protested.
