Being in an industry which has a mere 2% success rate, it is very difficult for all our products to do well. Because success does not only depend on the quality and content of the film but also has many factors which are to be taken into consideration. But here is one man who, defying all the odds, has emerged as one of the most successful director in the Tamil film industry. All the films made by him so far are runaway commercial hits and also won fair amount of critical acclaim.
The toughest part for mysskin was to release his first film Chithiram Pesuthadi. The film, which was made with a budget of 1.25cr and has Narain and Bhavana, both new faces as the lead pair, has bombed at the box-office due to weak publicity. But after Aascar Ravichandran took over the rights of the film, and publicized the film extensively, it gained much of its income in the re-release. Finally, the film was declared as sleeper-hit of the year and grossed around 8cr at the box-office.
In his second venture, Mysskin teamed up with prasanna and narain, for the film Anjathe. This film had a decent opening at the box office but mainly well received by the critics. With this film mysskin had caught the eyeball of many star actors of the industry.
His third film, in which he played the lead and portrayed a mentally disabled father, was loosely based on the 1999 Japanese film kikujiro. This film, which was highly praised by actor-director Kamal Haasan, although, was a commercial success, was severely criticized for its plagiarism.
His fourth venture, Yuddham Sei, had star director Cheran as the male lead, and was a crime thriller. This film also fared well at the box office.
His latest film, mugamoodi, which is dubbed into telugu as mask, is a superhero film, and has created a quite a buzz in both the film industries. The film, which released this Friday, mostly opened with positive reviews and also had a decent occupancy.
