The case in which a court issued non-biliable warrant against Andhra Pradesh Secondary Education Minister K Parthasarathy for alleged violation of Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA) is now coming to conclusion today with the Court deciding that the minister indeed did violate regulations. The punishment is to be announced later today the minister is even exptected to resign.
Following a complaint by Enforcement Directorate (ED) about his non-cooperation with the probe, the ED registered a case against Parthasarthy in 1999. The case relates to when he was the Managing Director of Hyderabad-based KPR Tele Products Limited according to ED, Parthasarathy did not pay duty on import of machinery for the firm.
Despite the ED imposing a penalty of Rs 3 lakh the minister did not pay the amount and this might now cost him his minister berth along with some jail time!
