APSRTC under its managing director A.K.Khan seems to be exploring all possible means to come out of its current financial state. A proposal making rounds in this regard is the complete monopolization of route between Hyderabad-Vijayawada or Hyderabad-Bangalore. As the Bangalore route involves inter-state permits, APSRTC is more keen to explore taking over the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route.

A survey commissioned by the organization has revealed that over 300 buses are plied everyday on the route by private operators. The two options before the government are to either curb on illegal transport in the route or completely ban private passanger travel in the route.

Government sources have indicated that private operators run the services as stage carriers despite obtaining permits for contract carriages and that the Transport department will check on this practice as a first step.

One question that the government does have to answer is if the capacity and the quality of service would improve or suffer once the route is taken over by APSRTC.
