Yesterday, when Pakistan’s Presidential spokesman, Farhatullah Babar announced that Sarabjit Singh’s death sentence had been commuted to life and considering time served he would be set free, there was joy all over. However, this turned out to be a short lived joy with the same spokesman again annoucing yesterday that it is was not Sarabjit but another Indian prisoner  Surjeet Singh that they were talking about.

Surjeet Singh has been in jail in Pakistan since 1982 and a campaign has been on for his release as well. However the joy of Sarabjit Singh’s family and his supporters has turned to tears with the change in yesterday’s announcement. Sarbajit’s wife called this “a deliberate and cruel joke” by the Pakistani government.
